Kate's Story

Age: 28
Occupation: Secretary

I never had a problem with constipation until I was pregnant. I went to the toilet very regular. But when I became pregnant, everything changed. My body seemed to go through so many changes and my hormones were playing havoc with my body.

I became constipated during my first trimester. I wanted to go to the toilet, but I felt so bloated. It was even painful at times, and I felt really uncomfortable walking. I spent more and more time on the toilet, but nothing seemed to be moving. On days when I was constipated, I felt less lively and bubbly than usual, so it began effecting my moods too.

I decided that I should eat more healthily to see if that would have an effect. I had my usual bran flakes in the morning, but thought that maybe I wasn't getting enough fibre in my diet. As I was pregnant, I wanted to look after myself better, and get my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. I stopped eating as much processed food and made a concerted effort to eat more healthily. But sometimes I would still get constipated. I didn't want to strain, because I didn't want to put my body through unnecessary pressure.

Recently, I have started taking Fybogel Hi-Fibre on a regular basis to help relieve my constipation. My doctor said it was suitable for me to use during pregnancy. I was really concerned what I was putting into my body as most pregnant women are. You tend to worry about everything. Fybogel Hi-Fibre contains Ispaghula husk, and I felt sure that I was treating my constipation in the best way. If I suffer again, I will definitely use Fybogel Hi-Fibre to treat my constipation even once I have had the baby. Now constipation is at least one less thing during my pregnancy to worry about now!
